Las Vegas Women’s March, 2018
Las Vegas has always done things a little bit differently, and the Women’s March today, January 21st, was no exception. As opposed to marching in the streets with many other major cities yesterday, Las Vegas was designated as the location for a rally, celebrating the anniversary of the first Women’s March, and bringing attention to the power of the vote.
I spent 9 hours outside listening to amazing, eloquent, moving speakers, including women of color, women politicians, trans women, women victim of gun violence, women leaders in churches, and women who are working to make a difference for the betterment of women. Also Cher. Cher was there. (I like to think of her as the OG Beyoncé.)
They shared their personal testimony, the work they’ve done to forward women’s rights, and above all, the importance of women uniting together to speak with our vote. It was a very monumental and moving experience for me to be one of thousands of women, uniting for an urgent and fundamental cause. I left wanting to decorate my bedroom with women leaders, à la Leslie Knope.
